Alex Doyle Guitar

You've Put In The Hours. So Why Aren't You Getting Better?

Most rock and metal guitarists don't have a talent problem.Nope. They have a practice problem.I fix that — with structured coaching built around 20 years of real teaching experience.

About Me

Hi, I'm Alex Doyle — rock and metal guitar coach, based in Birmingham. Better known as the home of metal. Thanks, Ozzy!
I've been playing for 25 years and teaching for 20. In that time I've worked with hundreds of guitarists — complete beginners, intermediate players stuck at the same ceiling for years, and advanced players who couldn't figure out why they'd stopped improving.
And almost every time, I saw the same three things.
They were playing. But they weren't practising.Noodling through the same riffs, running the same licks, maybe learning a new song every few weeks — but with no structure, no intention, no plan. That's not training. That's just passing time with a guitar in your hands.Their core technique had gaps they didn't know about..Poor posture. Inefficient pick grip. No understanding of pick slanting or how the mechanics of their picking hand actually worked. You can get away with that for a while. But rock and metal are demanding genres — and the ceiling arrives fast. They didn't know how to apply any of it to the music they actually loved..
They'd try to learn a technically demanding song, hit a wall almost immediately, and either grind away at it inefficiently for months or quietly give up. Nobody had ever shown them how to break something down, build the right exercises, or create a practice routine around the music they care about.
That's the gap I've spent two decades learning how to close. My approach is built on a simple idea I borrowed from elite sport. Songs are the match. They're not the training.
A footballer doesn't improve by playing matches every day. They drill. They isolate. They build the physical and technical foundations that make performance possible — and then they go and perform. Guitar is exactly the same. The songs you want to play are the goal. But technique is how you get there.
This is the framework I've spent twenty years refining with real students, in real lessons, until I understood precisely where people get stuck and exactly how to get them moving again.I'm not here to impress you with my playing — though I hope I inspire you. I'm here to fix how you practise. Because that's the only thing that will actually change how you play.Start with the free course..
